Designing a Room Using Abstract Art

One of the reasons for the enduring popularity of abstract art in home and business wall design is its ability to create a mood or feeling in a room that affects each viewer in a unique way. Although an abstract may have its starting point as a depiction of an actual object, the artist’s final rendering allows each individual to create their own interpretation of what they are seeing. It is this personal dialog with the art that is the underlying strength and appeal of the abstract in the wall design.

Using the visual language of form, color, shade and line – the abstract work  of art can impart a mood to a room’s design that allows the expression of pure emotion. A piece of abstract art can use color or volume to create feelings in a room without the message of realism. It can make a child’s playroom joyful and energetic or create an office or library space that is serious and intellectual. Want to make a bedroom space calm and relaxing? Use an abstract with deep ocean blues and sea foam greens that impart the feeling of an ocean vacation without the need for realism to state the obvious intent of the design. The possibilities are limited only by the imagination.

One does not need to know the theory behind the art to get the message behind its use in a room’s design. It is the difference between “seeing” and “feeling”. An abstract work of art opens the doorway to emotion to embrace the opportunity to step through and feel your rooms in a new and exciting way!
