Red, white and blue are the colors of early July. Here, in Aptos Village, our community parties on with the world’s “Shortest Parade” which begins with a pancake breakfast and ends with family fun, food and music in our Aptos Village Park. Our Mulberry Gallery windows will look out upon antique vehicles, floats, bands, dancers, dogs and more. We’re celebrating the beginning of July with new Red, White and Blue art by Owen in our front window. These pieces are available for Purchase in our Shop.
Celebrating with family and friends also means we get to add additional sparkle to our homes as we accessorize. We have a few ideas to keep in mind when working with these bright colors. First, our homes reflect our moods and personalities. It’s best to relax and just have fun. Use the following design principals of heights and levels, themes and colors and allow your own personal expression to happen.
Design with colors. Here we’ve collected three images from our Into the Blue abstract series. The art pieces on the wall are subtly illustrating a blue emotion; calmness and tranquility. The reds counter with an accent of strength, power and determination. We’ve chosen to surround the entire design with white. We are using white to symbolize sincerity, softness and protection. By framing the art with white and balancing with a collection of white photo frames at the bottom, we’ve created a design suitable for a hearth, entryway or dining area. The colors celebrate red, white and blue in July without overpowering. Design with heights. Here we use a small entry table, Country photo frames to reflect the feel of the art and an old urn holding dried grasses, to create interest with varying levels as they accent the art on the wall. In addition to the varying heights, we have also used the concept of grouping with colors. We stayed with the colors in the art, “Umber”, by repeating this shade in the photo frames and grasses. The narrow composition is a perfect way to welcome guests into your home. The photo frames add a personal touch as they can share a special family moment or two.
Temple Art combines its theme of Asian roots, the simplicity of black in the photo frames and the color blue in a vase to accent the red in the art and the red in the Japanese maple leaves. In this design example we have combined color, varying heights and theme to create our design.
